CORE OF KNOWLEDGE ASSESSMENT

As mandated by the Maryland State Department of Education-Office of Child Care (OCC), all Core of Knowledge classes conclude with an assessment. This assessment may take the form of an activity, group project, homework, or a written test. To obtain a Core of Knowledge certificate, participants must achieve a score of 75% or higher. A score of 74% or below will not qualify for a certificate.

Students can schedule a retake of the test, but if they do not pass the second assessment, they will need to retake the entire class (payment is required). Core of Knowledge certificates fulfill licensing and Maryland childcare credential training requirements established by OCC.

Participants must remain in class until the end; leaving early and missing the assessment will prevent the issuance of a certificate. Additionally, attendance at all sessions is required for multi-part classes to be eligible for the assessment.

CANCELATIONS/REFUNDS/CREDITS

Refunds are not available for missed classes or late arrivals. Cancellations must be made via email or phone (please leave a message if necessary) at least 24 hours before the training. All classes will start and end on time. If you arrive after the registrar has taken attendance, it will be recorded as a missed class.

If a student needs to cancel a class, a refund or credit for a future class may be issued, provided the cancellation is received at least 24 hours in advance. A $15 cancellation fee and processing fee will be deducted from any refund requested. If a student prefers a credit for a future class, the cancellation fee will not apply. Please note that missed classes, including late arrivals or early departures, will not be eligible for refunds or credits.

DUPLICATE CERTIFICATES

All certificates will be emailed within 10 business days after class completion. If you lose your certificate, a $15 administrative fee will apply for issuing a duplicate.

CLASS CANCELATIONS

Class schedules are arranged in advance, but there are occasions when cancellations may occur. Classes will be canceled if Montgomery County Public Schools are closed due to inclement weather or if evening or weekend activities are canceled for similar reasons or other emergencies. Additionally, classes may be canceled due to low enrollment or other administrative factors. You will be notified by email if a class is canceled, and you can also call 240-863-2331 to check the status of a class. If we do cancel a class, we will make every effort to reschedule or provide a substitute session.
