As mandated by the Maryland State Department of Education-Office of Child Care (OCC), all Core of Knowledge classes conclude with an assessment. This assessment may take the form of an activity, group project, homework, or a written test. To obtain a Core of Knowledge certificate, participants must achieve a score of 75% or higher. A score of 74% or below will not qualify for a certificate. Students can schedule a retake of the test, but if they do not pass the second assessment, they will need to retake the entire class (payment is required). Core of Knowledge certificates fulfill licensing and Maryland childcare credential training requirements established by OCC. Participants must remain in class until the end; leaving early and missing the assessment will prevent the issuance of a certificate. Additionally, attendance at all sessions is required for multi-part classes to be eligible for the assessment.
Each core knowledge training will take place over two days each month, with each session lasting 2 hours. Quizzes will be administered after each session, and a final assessment will be conducted during the final week.
